Life has changed in the past months concerning my Grandpa and Grandma Keane. Grandpa had open heart surgery on Friday, October 4th to replace a valve and the surgery went well- his heart is now better and stronger. Unfortunately, after the surgery he suffered a stroke and now has no memory of family members and isn't aware of what is going on. So sad. I feel bad for him, my grandma especially, and my mom and aunts and uncles who have somewhat "lost" their Dad in all of this. I pray that Grandma has the strength and faith to go forward and that Grandpa is able to slowly heal and remember and if not that he somehow feels all the love and support that our family will give to him.
I cherish the memories with Grandpa; both growing up and most recently his presence in Hayley and Hudson's lives. Grandpa lit up every time we came walking through the door - always wanting his hand held and the kids to climb up on his lap. I am thankful for the visits he and grandma made to St. Luke's when the kids were born, the birthday parties that they came to, the visits we made on Halloween and the simple and chaotic trips to their house just to say hi.
Grandpa is back in Sioux City and will be moving to a nursing home in the next few weeks. I'm not sure how soon I will see him or what that will be like but I miss him and hope things can turn around for the better somehow, some way. In the meantime we will pray and be there for Grandma as she adjusts. She is the sweetest and I'm so glad that she has such a large family right here in town to be there for her.
