Something to keep in mind...
"I waste so much time visualizing what I think things should look like,
that I sometimes miss the beauty in how they actually turn out."
I am definitely a planner. I want every weekend to be planned. I want to know what I'm going to do after work at night. I like to have a "plan" in mind all the time. It gets exhausting (for me) and annoying (for Josh) but it's just how I am. As hard as I try I am just not the "go with the flow" type of girl. I came across this quote reading a blog post. I have really enjoyed blogging the past two years and following a few blogs that I enjoy and seem to gain something from. This statement really made me stop and think. I find it to be very true for the way that I am.
This summer hasn't been exactly how I pictured it but we are where we are and I'm happy for that. I had this idea in my head back in May that this would be the 'Perfect' summer. I had the event calendar and my own calendar in hand and made sure I had all the free summer movies in the park, music downtown, local events, etc. all on the calendar for us to enjoy. I wanted to take lots of walks, visit the pool a bunch, take a couple of mini-trips to the lake and the zoo and enjoy as much of summer as I could with Josh, Hayley, Hudson and the rest of our families. I felt like when we got to September that I wanted to look back and say "That was the best summer ever!" I wish I wouldn't put so much emphasis on what things should look like and how I want to remember things and just relax and enjoy.
We have actually done most of what was on my list but maybe not exactly how I envisioned it. Life is busy. Life is fast. Life is stressful. My goal is to enjoy as much as possible as often as possible but the reality of work, selling our home, and Josh working to finish our rental home all factor in and make it hard to do all that I had "planned" and more importantly for all of us to be able to actually relax and enjoy all together - not just me and the kids. We have done lots of fun little things with my parents and Josh's parents but not as much as a family of four and that's what I enjoy most and can't wait to do more of.
All in all it has been a nice summer - one that we will always remember. I am thankful for my talented, dedicated, and hard-working husband for all that he does for our family. Josh and I both look forward to a less stressful time in life to really be able to relax and enjoy the simple things in life :)
