Hudson James Hewitt was born on Sunday, December 4th, 2011 at 11:20am. He weighed 6lbs. 1oz and was 19.5 inches long. He is beautiful, healthy, and perfect! We are so in love with our new little baby boy!!
As much of a planner as I am I should have known that Hudson's arrival would be anything but planned! It was a bit of a crazy weekend as Hudson decided to enter the world. Either way, we are all so happy and blessed that he arrived safely and that we are all home safe and sound and doing well.
I stayed home with Hayley on Friday, December 2nd. We woke up to find that she had thrown up in her crib and she had terrible diarrhea. She had a 24 hour flu bug and we felt horrible for her. I spent Friday rocking her and trying to get her to drink as much Pedialyte as possible.
Friday night when Josh got home I finally took a hot shower and Josh suggested I run over to Wal-mart and rent a couple movies, pick up some ice cream, and check my blood pressure. I had had my 37 week appointment that Wednesday and Dr. Roge suggested I check it once before my next appointment since it was a bit elevated. I checked it 4 times at Wal-Mart and it was higher than at my appointment. I got a little nervous and bought a home blood pressure kit while I was there. I came home and laid down and took it a few more times... it was still high so I called the 24-hour MyNurse line where they paged Dr. Roge and she had me head up to St. Luke's for observation.
My parents and sister had just left that day for a week in Sanibel Island, FL and had just arrived in Fort Myers when we were calling Josh's parents to come up and watch Hayley so we could head up to the hospital. I stayed for about an hour and things looked good. My BP was a bit high but I had no other signs of pre-eclampsia so I came home by about 10:30pm.
Joe & Kayan stayed the night and we got up on Saturday and all went and got Jitters donuts and hot chocolate. We took naps and then headed over to Josh's grandparents to visit - oddly enough Josh's parents were there too and had not yet headed home. While there I started feeling very hot and sick to my stomach. We came home and I instantly got sick with vomiting and diarrhea. I had a miserable two hours before Josh decided we should go to the hospital so I didn't get dehydrated; especially with the baby and my high blood pressure issues.
I took a bowl with me and Josh dropped me off at the door while he parked the car. I felt so weak and sick that all I could do was find a wheel chair in the lobby to sit down in. I started getting sick as Josh walked in and he wheeled me up to labor and delivery on second floor. The nicest nurse met us in the hallway and got me in a room to start IV's and an anti-nausea medicine. I honesly have never felt so miserable in my life and was so thankful to be there. She also started monitoring the baby. I had already started having contractions due to the vomiting and dry-heaving but they thought once I settled down that the contractions would as well. I was there for about 5 hours getting IV fluids and my contractions were getting stronger. It was about 1am that they decided I was in active labor and would deliver. I was taken to a labor and delivery room and we were going to have a baby!
I was pretty upset that my parents were not there and cried when I walked into the delivery room with out my mom there. Of course Josh was by my side the whole time and I was so thankful that Kayan was with us but I couldn't believe that it was all going to happen with my parents so far away. I got my epidural and got settled and we had a quiet night. Sunday morning I got a dose of Pitocin to speed things up and the delivery went fairly quickly. The cord was wrapped around Hudson's neck twice and the nurses were concerned about the amount of blood I was losing which of course made me nervous too. Josh kept me calm and before we knew it... Hudson James entered the world and our lives changed forever.
Joe and Kayan were absolutely wonderful. They were so supportive and right there when we needed them. They stayed at our house and took care of Hayley. We are so thankful for all of their love and support.
Josh stayed the night with me on Sunday night and woke up Monday with the flu so he had to go home for the day. Thankfully the day was fine and Joe and Hayley came up to spend time with me and Hudson. Josh was feeling better on Tuesday and came up at 6am. I was so glad to see him! We brought Hudson home on Tuesday, December 6th - the temperature that morning was -9 degrees. We wrapped him up to keep him nice and warm.
We have been home for 2 days now and are doing well. Kim and Katie are coming from Ames tomorrow night and Mom, Dad, and Jill will be here Saturday. I still can't believe that everything happened without my family here but I cannot wait for them to meet our son. We are looking forward to a fun weekend!
This was a long post of text but I just wanted to get this "story" down - not that I would ever forget it! I have been a bit overwhelmed but Josh and I are so happy, in love, and in awe at this little family that we have created. We are so thankful and blessed for our two little loves, Hayley Ann and Hudson James.
Hayley has been a little unsure of what is going on and is at such a fun and curious age. We may have our hands full at first but I'm sure we will adjust in no time. She is such a sweetie and is going to be a great big sister. Now - time for some pictures!
